Rebate savings concept for heat pump installation

Rebates & Savings

Save Thousands on a New Heat Pump

The PSEG Long Island rebate, EmPower+, and Rate Code 580 can substantially reduce the cost of a heat pump installation for Suffolk County homeowners. We know every program and handle all the paperwork.

Thousands

In rebates and incentives

The PSEG Long Island rebate runs $4,000 to $7,500 by income tier, and most Suffolk County homeowners add Rate Code 580 and, if income qualified, EmPower+ weatherization on top. Together they knock several thousand off a heat pump installation. Since the federal 25C credit expired, see how the 2026 rebate math works without it.

Available Programs

Rebates and Savings Available

These programs can be combined for maximum savings. We'll identify every program you qualify for and handle all the applications.

PSEG Long Island Rebate

PSEG Long Island pays a flat whole-house rebate for a qualifying heat pump that becomes your home's primary heat. On Long Island this is the NYS Clean Heat money, paid as one rebate through a participating contractor. The amount is set by income tier, not by system size.

$4,000 to $7,500
  • Market rate: $4,000 per home
  • Moderate income (under 80% AMI) or a Disadvantaged Community: $5,000
  • Income-qualified (under 60% AMI): $7,500
  • Must use a participating contractor (we are one)

NYSERDA EmPower+

A separate NYSERDA program that pays for energy efficiency and weatherization work, not the heat pump rebate itself. Income-qualified households can pair it with the PSEG rebate on the same project. Open to owners and renters of 1-4 family homes.

Income-qualified
  • Below 60% state median income: no-cost improvements
  • 60-80% area median income: 50% cost share
  • Free home energy assessment included
  • IRA HEAR funding through EmPower+ cannot combine with the PSEG rebate

PSEG Rate Code 580

Not a rebate but ongoing savings. Whole-home heat pump customers get a 40% discount on electric delivery charges from October through May. It stacks on top of the rebate every year you live in the home.

40% delivery discount
  • 40% off electric delivery charges, October through May
  • For homes where the heat pump is the primary heat source
  • Roughly $300 to $800 a year for most homes
  • Separate enrollment with PSEG after install

What Your Savings Could Look Like

Here's a real example of how the rebate works on a typical Long Island heat pump installation.

3-Zone Ductless Heat Pump Installation$12,000
PSEG Long Island Rebate (market rate)- $4,000
Your Cost$8,000

This is a market-rate example. Income-qualified homeowners get a higher rebate tier ($5,000 to $7,500), and Rate Code 580 saves roughly $300 to $800 a year on top.

Common Questions

Rebates & Savings FAQ

Honest answer: the federal 25C tax credit that used to cover up to $2,000 for heat pump installations expired on December 31, 2025. It is not available for systems installed in 2026 or later. The good news is the New York State and PSEG Long Island programs are still active, and they are the bigger numbers anyway. We will update this page if Congress brings any federal credit back.

You must be a PSEG Long Island electric customer and install a qualifying heat pump system through a participating contractor. The equipment must meet minimum efficiency ratings set by PSEG, and the heat pump generally needs to replace your existing heating system as the home's primary heat source. We are a PSEG participating contractor and handle the entire rebate application process. The rebate is a flat amount per home set by income tier: $4,000 at market rate, $5,000 for moderate-income households or homes in a Disadvantaged Community, and $7,500 for income-qualified households under 60% of state median income.

Most of these rebates are designed around replacing your existing heating system, so the heat pump needs to take over as your home's primary heat source. Adding a cooling-only system, or a supplemental unit that leaves an oil, gas, or propane furnace or boiler as your main heat, usually means reduced rebates or none at all. New construction with no system to replace falls into the same bucket. If you are not sure how your project lines up, give us a call and we will tell you exactly what it qualifies for.

The main one is the PSEG Long Island rebate, a flat whole-house amount for a qualifying heat pump that replaces your existing heating system. On Long Island that single rebate is how the NYS Clean Heat money is paid, so it is not two separate rebates. Income-qualified households can also tap NYSERDA EmPower+, a separate program that pays for weatherization and energy efficiency work on the same project. We check your eligibility during the estimate visit and help you apply for every program you qualify for.

No, and this trips a lot of people up. On Long Island, PSEG administers the NYS Clean Heat program, so the heat pump rebate you get is one amount, not a PSEG rebate plus a separate Clean Heat rebate stacked on top. What does stack is NYSERDA EmPower+ (weatherization for income-qualified homes) and PSEG Rate Code 580 (an ongoing electric delivery discount). One caveat: if you take IRA HEAR funding through EmPower+, you cannot also take the PSEG rebate, since that is the same Clean Heat money.

The PSEG Long Island rebate is a flat amount per home: $4,000 at market rate, $5,000 for moderate-income households or homes in a Disadvantaged Community, and $7,500 for income-qualified households. On top of that, Rate Code 580 saves roughly $300 to $800 a year on electric delivery, and income-qualified homes may add EmPower+ weatherization. Our free rebate calculator shows your range based on your home and income tier.

Yes. We complete and submit the PSEG Long Island rebate application, and any EmPower+ paperwork, on your behalf at no extra charge. Our goal is to make sure you receive every dollar you are entitled to without the hassle.

The PSEG Long Island rebate is usually applied by the participating contractor, so on most projects it comes off your invoice up front rather than arriving as a check months later. Where a rebate is paid after installation, it typically lands within 4-8 weeks. We offer financing options that let you spread payments over time while you wait for any post-install rebates to arrive.
